Titel: NOS in Science Education: A Critical Analysis

Abstract: This talk examines two key philosophical challenges associated with the consensus approach to the Nature of Science (NOS) in educational contexts. The first challenge relates to the treatment of core concepts that constitute the prevailing views on NOS, which, as will be argued, might promote a biased understanding of science as a human endeavor. The second challenge concerns the impossibility of defining science in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions. The talk will explore the strengths and limitations of strategies employed to address the challenge of teaching what science is, despite the inherent difficulty in providing a definitive characterization of science itself.

Building on these insights, I will outline a proposal aimed at addressing both sets of issues, offering an alternative framework for understanding the Nature of Science in education."
